We are inspiring, resourcing, and connecting the emerging liberation movement in the Church and the world.

The Liberation Project is a national movement of Christians promoting and practicing Christ’s Gospel of liberation. God’s liberating work is already happening, and we are in the business of proclaiming this good news.

We spotlight practitioners called “Liberationists” who are doing liberative ministry on the ground. We produce resources to equipping congregations and individuals to better join God in the movement of freedom. And we are connecting these congregations and individuals for mutual learning and support.

**Right now we are hosting this conversation specifically within the United Methodist Church, which is going through a sea-change as the denomination moves towards affirming queer people

OUr vision

We seek a world where all of God’s Creation is collectively liberating and resurrecting

“seek”: We are an intrinsically hopeful people. We know from wisdom passed down by our ancestors that this world is possible, if only we ‘stay alert’ (Mark 13:35). Our hope is not passive; we take on our responsibility to co-create the Kingdom (Kin-dom) of God.

“a world”: Our end goal is not merely a transformed Sunday morning. Our end goal is a transformed world, which requires Christian transformation in every aspect of life.

“all of God’s Creation”: We understand that God’s hope is not only for humans. We pursue an intersectional analysis of liberation that includes the rest of Creation

“collectively”: We resist the urge to obey one charismatic leader, choosing rather to empower individuals to make choices about how they move within the collective. This is a dynamic, not static, process that depends on mutuality/radical solidarity.

“liberating”: Liberation means that all of Creation is in flourishing ‘right relationship’ with each other, meaning, no individual or system of oppression dominates.

“resurrecting”: We are followers of Jesus, and as such we believe that God brings new life after death. We participate in resurrection through spiritual practices like worshiping, praying, studying the Bible, being in solidarity with each others’ resistance to oppression, receiving Communion, building new systems of flourishing, and more.
